About Me

Hello!  My name is Jonathan Moore and I am a Los Angeles based photographer specializing in destination weddings and elopements.  I am a Southern California native and a graduate of USC.  I am also an aspiring CrossFitter, a diehard Trojan, a world traveler, a strong believer in marriage equality, a decent mountain biker, a better hiker and an even better yogi!

What is my approach?

I think that being a kind, open-hearted and polite human being works very well for me and for my clients.  Simply put, I like being around my clients and they like being around me.  In the end, friends trust friends, and my previous subjects have put 110% of their trust in me. For that I am eternally grateful…

Stylistically, I am a purist in every sense of the word.  I try to keep everything, for the most part, just as we see it.  I don’t intervene unless it’s appropriate.  During a portrait shoot, other than very basic posing adjustments for light and composition, I will never direct you to specifically to “look” or “appear” certain way.

What sort of couples do you like to work with?

Well, first and foremost you someone who knows that life is short, so you want to make every moment count.  You have a sense of adventure and a need to experience new things.  You enjoy being outdoors.  You’re spontaneous.  You value the effort that goes into good photography, however you may define that.  Most importantly, you are madly in love with your partner and you are excited to show that in front a stranger (me) and my camera.  If you’re any of these things, we will work well together and the stranger part won’t last long at all…

I look forward to speaking with you!

– Jonathan

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you do both weddings and elopements?

A: Yes.  I cover larger, traditional weddings as well as smaller, more intimate elopements.

Q: Who will be shooting my wedding?

A: For larger traditional weddings, there will be 2 shooters.  Me (of course) and a second photographer who is like-minded and has a very similar style.  For smaller elopements it will be me alone.

Q: Will you do family posed shots?

A: Absolutely.  I am happy to take as many group shots as you’d like, but very few people (including me), enjoy this process, I always try to get through group shots as efficiently as possible so that your guests can enjoy themselves.

Q: Where are you located?

A: I live in Santa Monica, California and I am happy to travel wherever your wedding or elopement takes place.

Q: Do you do destination weddings?  What is your policy on travel expenses?

A: Absolutely!  So far, I have covered weddings in Spain, UK and Mexico. I would love to expand that list!  Regarding travel expenses, the cost of flights, ground transportation and lodging is not included and will be factored into the price.  Whenever possible, however, I will arrange for lodging and/or ground transportation with friends and pass that savings along to you.

Q: Are your prices set in stone?

A: For the most part, yes, however, I do offer reduced rates if your wedding is scheduled on a weekday (Monday – Thursday).  In addition, I offer a special discount for all current and former members of the military as well as fellow alumni of USC.  Please contact me for more details.

Q: When will I see the images?

A: Typically it will take between three and four weeks for me to finish processing, at which point you will be receive two links: One to view your proofs in a password-protected gallery, and the other to download your high-resolution images (for printing) and low resolution images (for devices/social media).  All media files are delivered by DropBox.  I no longer use CDs or DVDs or for any purpose.

Q: What kind of equipment do you use?

A: Currently, I shoot with two Nikon D810s and a range of Nikon prime and zoom lenses.  For lighting, I will either use Nikon speedlites or Profoto strobes depending on the conditions.  For editing, I use an iMac and a MacBook Pro.

Q: Do you cover weddings and/or Beloved sessions for LGBT couples?

A: Definitely. I run a gay-friendly business and I strongly support marriage equality.

Q: How far should I book in advance? What are the next steps?

A:  Generally speaking, people usually book about one year in advance, though occasionally I do get some last minute requests. I encourage you to reach out regardless of how far out your date is.

The prepayment amount is 30%.  This is due at the time the contract is signed. The remaining 70%, plus any items added after the contract signing, is due one week before the wedding.

Please contact me if you have any other questions.

What others are saying:

“We are thrilled with our wedding photographs. Family and friends have told me they are the best wedding photos they've ever seen. One person who doesn't even like wedding photos told me he loved Jonathan's photographs. Others who weren't even at the wedding have told me the photos made them feel like they were there.

We also really liked his unique approach to the Beloved (engagement) session, which, amidst the stresses of wedding planning, gave me and my husband quality time to honestly connect with each other and celebrate our relationship and our future, and as a result, made for truly candid and meaningful photographs."

Meishya & Brandon

"Everyone looked so beautiful because of the happiness and love he captured in their expressions, their body language, etc. Please look at Jonathan's work and see for yourself. Cannot recommend him highly enough."

Beth & Nick

"From the beginning of the day to the end of the night - when everyone was definitely letting loose - you could see the efforts he took with each photo. Like others have mentioned, his approach and style is very journalistic and, in my opinion, a step above the quality I've seen from other photographers. I'd recommend him to anyone!"

Lauren & Ramon

"We certainly got what we were looking for with the shots Jonathan captured. The shots are amazing- you can see and almost hear laughs and feel the love on the stills he provided. there are many action shots and special "moments" that reflect exactly how we, our families and friends, felt that day.

Our family and friends enjoyed his work so much- they've already requested his contact information to fly for their upcoming destination weddings."

Caroline & Frank

He was very accommodating and energetic. I felt like he worked hard to get great photos for us. Jonathan is fantastic to work with! I couldn't be happier with our wedding photos!"

Jessica & John

"All in all Jonathan has amazing talent, he puts thought and heart into every photo he takes. We are over the moon in love with our photos and can't thank him enough!! I highly recommend Jonathan to anyone looking for meaningful, creative photos that are just stunning!"

Kaitlyn & Sam

“Jonathan was fantastic. He is extremely talented, flexible, professional and simply a wonderful person, which matters a lot when it comes to one of the most important (and often stressful) days of your life."

The album was a big item for us, I work in advertising and so am very meticulous about layouts- I was worried about this. But what he did was amazing and he worked with me when I had suggestions, he switched out shot after shot to get it perfect.

I gave the book to my husband as a Christmas present and my whole family cried. Our photos are so incredible, they are truly art, which we proudly show off.”
